Authority

I figured it out. I don't have a problem with authority, I have a problem with pretending that people who know less than me know more than me. I have no problem following somebody's leadership if they are legitimately more skilled. Nor do I have a problem following leadership if they have leadership skills and charisma, but understand my skill set. But when people legitimately lack skills that I have, and try to use their authority to get me to do something that I could do better without their "help", I get a bit belligerent.

In elementary school, we all had to take a music class. Most of us really weren't into creating our own music. I certainly wasn't. One day, in a misguided attempt to inspire us, our music teacher told us that all songs told a story. At ten years old, I wondered how this could be true: there's emotion in a song, but no words. How could you get a story from a song? How could you be sure it was the story that the artist was trying to tell?
