I've successfully completed the second version of my website, which you are now viewing.
The new features include a new layout (I prefer the full-page layout to the old partial page layout) and a re-worked comment system that lets you reply to other peoples comments. Also, if you want to create an account (which is just a user name and password, no other information), then you can edit your comments at any time.
Furthermore, there's a clearer separation between different web site sections, which I think makes things a little easier to navigate.
There's also been an overhaul on the administration side of things, which makes my life a lot easier. I can publish and pull entries while viewing them instead of going into the administration page, and I have hooks to edit or add new entries right from the main site, instead of having to go around to the administration side. Also, I added a bunch of hooks to moderate comments in-place, which is cool.
There's also been a re-worked ordering of the entries, so that they come in threads now. This allows me to write tutorials or entries with attached sub-entries without cluttering up the entry listings. To see what I mean, check out the fractal tutorial which I used to make my header images.
Also, there's new syndication feeds if you are interested. There's one for all updates, one for each section, and the site will auto-generate a feed for each entry if you want to, say, watch for updates to specific tutorials.
If you think that anything that I'm doing is stupid as far as site design goes, please notify me. Feedback is welcome.
Over the next few days, I'll be cleaning up the code base for the new site, splitting off the media into a separate project (because it's hosted by a separate process for performance reasons), and cleaning up the CSS on silly browsers like internet explorer. Also, I plan to get this baby memcached sometime, I've been using django's dummy cache and haven't gotten around to getting memcached installed. Look forward to minor improvements in the future.
